Citi Care

Taking care of your furniture is a necessity if you want your home in a perfect condition. To do this, follow our instructions to safeguard your hardwood, leather and fabric furniture from any mishaps and spills that might occur during everyday life.

Taking care of your wood furniture

  • Dusting your wood should be done with a soft cloth that has been moistened lightly with spray product so as not to leave any scratches behind.
  • Waxing your wood should be done occasionally by a special paste. Old wax should be removed before applying the new one. A period of six to twelve months is appropriate to maintain your wood.
  • Heat can damage your wood so it’s best if you keep your furniture away from the radiators. Direct sunlight is a harmful factor to your wood furniture so try to protect them by closing the curtains.

- Covering the scratches:

  • Did you know that shoe polish is a good sealer for any wood scratches?
  • Use a shoe polish of the lightest shade of the finish and fill the scratch.
  • Use a natural or tan shoe polish when the stain is on lightwood.

- Removing a stain from wood surfaces:

  • To remove water and ring stains from your wood surfaces, rub with salad oil or mayonnaise then wipe with a dry cloth and wax or polish.
  • To conceal cigarette burns try rubbing with a scratch-concealing polish.
  • To remove wax or gum, harden the stain by fixing an ice cube directly on the stain. Once it’s hard use a plastic card to remove it. Dip a steel wool in some mineral spirits. Wax once the stain is gone.

Taking care of your leather or fabric sofas

- Leather:

  • Keeping your sofas away from heating systems will save them from drying out or cracking. 30 to 50cm would be sufficient to maintain their elasticity.
  • Direct exposure to sunlight is harmful to the color of the fabric and will cause it to fade away and leave it looking old.
  • Pet saliva and sharp claws will leave scratches on your leather and can be very harmful to their surface.
  • In case of ink stains, dip a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol and rub it over the ink stain then dry with a blow dryer.
  • To remove dark stains from light colored leather mix a paste of 1 part cream of tartar to 1 part lemon juice. Rub the paste onto the stain and leave it on for 12 minutes. Remove the paste with a damp sponge and moisturizing soap. Buff the leather dry with a soft cloth.
  • To replenish the leather, mix 1 part white vinegar with 2 parts linseed oil. Shake well and apply to the leather in circular motions, covering the entire surface. Let the mixture sit for about 10 minutes and then wipe it with a soft cloth.

- Fabric:

  • Vacuuming your furniture will save it from getting wearing out the surface because dust can be damaging with time.
  • Direct exposure to sunlight will fade out the colors; always draw the curtains to protect them.
  • Turn your cushions frequently and plump them on a daily basis.

REMEMBER:

  • Use coasters under wet glasses and hot dishes.
  • Blot all spills immediately.
  • Never drag your furniture, always lift it up so as not to cause any scratches.
  • Keep nail polish and solvents away from your furniture.
  • Always try stain-removing methods on a concealed area before using it on the stain itself.
